The road we traveled

How could you think I could just walk away and not look back for you?
I thought you could stay around a bit but was that to much for you to do
Was the road to rough to handle, the journey to long to take
I sit now and think of our times, do you just see it as a mistake?
I guess I think I had to lead. Through it all I wanted only you by my side
Where did that get us now-just friends-ex-lovers-either with silent good-byes?
Did you turn off the road we traveled in search for someone old or new
I tried so hard to light our path, but I see now it's something I couldn't do
I guess I am feeling sorry for any mistakes that were made
Now that you are away from me, I see the price that I have paid
The roads maybe are smoother now and the curves not so tight
The hours now are much longer though without you holding me tonight
