Mom, I think I see a pattern in my life
One that started, when I was just a child
Remember all the times you would tell me to get ready for bed
I'd turn to you with that little boy smile

I would ask..

I remember those times I would be outside with my friends
With you standing there at the door calling me
Come on in now dinner is almost ready
Tell your friends you have to leave

It happened through all my younger years
Like the time you were teaching me to drive a car
Or with my friend when I wanted to stay out late at night
But you said " I want you home... I want to know where you are"

I'm older now and meet this wonderful girl
And the first time I saw her face
The time went by to quickly for me
I thought she was gone without a trace

But we've dated for a while now and I remember...
Every time I held her close by my side
I never wanted to let her go away
I'd whisper the words that almost made me cry
